 Naval Design

Design Process

We focus on developing innovative designs of the vessels that are able to answer specific desires of  Our Discerning  Clients. The design proces is always based on the detailedbrief created through several  interviews with our Client, that helps to better understand the type and size of the vessel required, as well as many other details in regards to General Arrangment, performance and desired features on board.

Conceptual stage involves 2D and perspective drawings, as well as solid 3D model of the hull, that includes naval calculations and real environment simulations in order to assure sea worthiness, structural integrity and proper function of all features.

Further development involves commissioning an appropriate shipyard to assess the design and carry out construction. We continue to monitor, support and oversee the construction process at the shipyard
and provide continious guidence  untill completion, as well as post delivery of the vessel.

"Ptoject Magnitude" was designed in 2009 in collaboration with Oceanco,  when published in early 2010 by Show Boat and Boat International   magazines  it was the first yacht in the world with

Fold Down Bulkheads Transom
" The Beach Club"

which was  conceptualised and introduesed  solely by Opalinski Desig
n Studio.  The Youtube   video was released in 2011 and over time it gained  over
9.5M views making it, to this day World's No.1 watched  video of a yacht concept .

Since then this innovative feature  became an industry s
tandard on the global scale . First  in 2015 / 16 manufactuters of smaller boats and yachts started installing it aboard of their product, and when it was well received by discerning clientelle the feature started to go main stream and implemented globally  by large European and US shipyards scaling this feature for large vessels exceeding 40 meters.

Rotational Transom
"The Beach Club 2.0"

Observing the evolution and scaling of the Fold down bulheads Transom,  Opalinski realised
that while it is an amazing feature for small to medium size vessels,  as it is being scaled up and implemented on larger custom  yachts it becomes  demanding technologically and problematic from the operational stand point. This is because: to lower and lift large bulheads  requires instalation of massive hydrolic actuators, that are  very heavy,
power hungry and costly,  as well as  pose unnesesary oparational hazards.

To solve this Issue  Lukasz Opalinski and his team conceptualised and engineered a new, superior  solution for larger vessels starting from 20 meters in lenght.
This revolutionary solution uses vertical axes instead of horisonal. This allows for the bulkheads to be deployed and retra
cted  in a similiar manner as regular hinged  gate using small electric motors to operate massive and heavy bulkheads.

When first indrodued in December  2020  aboard of "Indah - 120m"  it was notised by  major yachting and terchnology oriented media  and published globally.  Boats International, Yacht International , Robb report
 and several others online publications

The Rotational Transom feature has been

patended and protected internationally P.435916.
We are now in the process of  licencing procedures with various marine equipment manufactuers and shipyards globally so this feature can be legaly implemented aboard as many single and multiple hull vessels across the industry in coming years.

Features as Fold Down Bulkheads Transom and Rotational Transom while transformative to the industry they are only a small part of large picture approach to design at Opalinski Design  Studio. We are always pushing the bouduaries of what's possible in various  aspects of yachting ,
From funtional - "on demand" expanding avaialble deck space, through  E
nvironmental - electric/hydrogen propulsion, hydrofoiling to motor/sail transformation, to Visual - progressive, elegant styling .

All in the quest of bringing the full potential in yachting experience while achieving sustanablity and symbiotic relationship with our environemt.

 John Henson

When Designing seagoing vessels the knowlage of  surronding envirnoment and understanding of all operational  aspects on board of a yacht are the key conditions, that assure the seaworthiness and determine  the usability and safety for all guests as well as the crew .

John Henson is a visionary Naval advisor with over 40 years of first hand experience as a superyacht captain, that crossed world oceans and seas in all conditions , a helicopter pilot who flew camera men filming cigarete boat races few meters above water in reverse,  a commercial diver who welded structures of oil rigs in the middle of the ocean staying in underwater capsules for days on end  , a manager of Hamilton Island Marina Resort  Construcion and fianlly ,as long board surfer, that he loves from young age and still does at his  home beaches in  Australia.        ......  A true  " Sea Wolf "

John plays a crucial and key role within our Naval Design Team. His teaching and guidance regarding varuious operational and safety  aspects of the yacht  design is critical and it cannot be tought by any hand book at a maritime university.  Every vessel we design carries the wealth John's   knowlage and experience on the water in it's DNA...

Yachting experience isn't at all about “being on the boat”. It is about “being on the water.”
This is a very fundamental and one of most powerful principles driving our creative engines to
envision and design watercraft capable of delivering this very experience.
If it was about “being on the boat” we could safely experience yachting from our beachfront
penthouse apartments and believe this is it...
This certainly applies to the larger vessels as they keep providing more and more space,
accommodation and indoor living spaces enclosing us and keeping away from what the yacht
was initially designed for …. “Being on the water”.....
Regardless of their size all Water Crafts from a jet-ski to 200 meter yacht are conceived
to bring back the experience and fade the line between us and the ocean even further. It is
about creating adaptable corresponding spaces and allow the vessel to transform accordingly
to location, conditions, requirements but most importantly to always always bring us closer to
what we are. 80% water......
This is why we enjoy it so much, this is why we live of it , this is why it is the main source of
all life.
Other than it's practical applications as transportation, leisure and exploration, We believe
that the yacht should serve the role of a bridge that helps us stay in tune with our
environment and be one with it.
Our open minded and unconstrained approach to design is visible in every one of our yachts
as they become more intuitive and interlinked through transformation into the new outdoor
areas that allow for full utilization of the available space. The new intelligent propulsion
systems and sustainable sources of energy make our yachts neutral to the environment. The
building materials and processes are also Eco sensitive and pose ever so decreasing threats
to the nature and this is only beginning....
Experiencing Ocean on board of a yacht that has every trace of universal understanding and
balance is like landing in ...“our mothers arms”..... and knowing that... “we are home”...
